Dallas’ song is used during a workout montage - a staple in sports films - and the song could not be more perfect for such a scene.
Dallas took to Instagram to talk about the song being featured in the film and what it means to him.
"There’s many nice things I could never imagine or foresee happening for myself. Top of that list is a song me & my bros made 9 years ago appearing in a movie starring Adam Sandler & produced by Lebron James... Unreal. 🙏." the Auckland based artist told his followers.
Koia kei a Dallas. You're the man.
‘Runnin’’ uses a sample throughout the song which comes from Philadelphia DJ/producer, King Britt’s ‘New World In My View’.
The film is largely based in Philadelphia, which suggests the song may have been picked on purpose because of the connection. Either way, it's pretty dope to see one of Aotearoa's very own artists be part of a big-time Netflix film.
The movie (co-produced by Lebron James) follows Stanley Sugarman (played by Sandler), an ageing international NBA scout for the Philadelphia 76ers.
The film features Queen Latifah alongside Sandler, as well as NBA players Juancho Hernangomez and Anthony Edwards, the former being a player Sandler recruits, and the latter being a rival player.
There are also a plethora of NBA stars and legends with roles in the film. Shaquille O’Neal, Trae Young, Luka Doncic, Charles Barkley, and Dr J (all of which play themselves), just to name a few.
‘Hustle’ is available to watch on Netflix right now.
