Doctors forced to remove 2kg dumbbell stuck in man's rectum

Why go to the gym when you can bring the gym home with you?

It's a slow news day. Can you tell?

Doctors in Brazil had to remove a 2kg dumbbell that was stuck in a man's rectum, according to a recent case in the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports.

The 54-year-old man waited two days to seek medical help, despite suffering stomach pains, nausea and constipation. He also tried to remove the dumbbell himself. When that failed, he went to the hospital, where doctors initially were unable to find the problem by rectal examiniation.

After X-rays were conducted, doctors found the 20cm -long-dumbbell wedged in where the colon meets the rectum. Ya can't miss it.

Surgeons attempted to remove the dumbbell with tweezers, but when that failed, they had to pull out the big guns.

Some poor surgeon performed a 'manual extraction', by using their forearm to remove the object.

Speaking about the case, the doctors said:

“Retained rectal objects represent a rare complaint in the emergency room, affecting mainly males between 20 and 40 years, with most objects of a sexual nature, but the examiner must be aware of objects of an unusual nature,."

The man was discharged after 3 days in hospital.
