House of Shem's Carl Perkins, has passed away after fighting terminal bowel cancer.

New Zealand music has lost a legend today. Our hearts go out to Carl's friends and family during this time.

Moe mai ra.

House of Shem took to their Facebook page to share the sad news:

"Kua ngu nei te korokoro tui, kua hinga nei te totara haemata, hoki atu ra ki o matua tupuna, hoki atu ra ki to whenua taurikua, haere, haere , haere atu."

"The majestic voice of the tui is silent, the great totara has fallen, return to your ancestors, return to our true home, farewell and goodbye."

"Our Leader, Our King, Papa Carl Perkins has passed away surrounded by his Whanau, after a 15 month battle with cancer, we will Love you for ever."

"Grand Father, Great Grandfather and a legend of New Zealand music. Carl started his international career with Reggae icons “HERBS” as a Musician & Song writer and now currently the driving force behind World renowned Reggae band “HOUSE OF SHEM”."
