New Zealand is getting another public holiday!

New Zealand is getting a new public holiday to commemorate the New Zealand land wars!

The announcement was made by Deputy Prime Minister Bill English on Friday during the 10th anniversary celebrations of Maori King Tuheitia's reign and as the Rangiriri battlesite was returned to Maori at Turangawaewae.

Work is currently underway to determine a suitable date.

A spokesman for King Tuheitiasaid "one of the things they are asking to consider is it does not clash with any particular battle site commemorations, so that it can be a clean and stand alone date and then people can have their commemorations on their dates free and clear of any hindrances."
