'Such a special moment': Mum and Son get moko kauae and mataora together in 'moving' video

“What a beautiful core memory captured on film.”

A beautiful moment between a mother and her son has been captured as they embraced their ancestry by getting their moko together in a "powerful and moving" video.

In a resurfaced clip posted to Instagram by @maoriworldwide, Tu Edmonds can be seen receiving his mataora as his mum, Tania,  watches over him with pride.

The page describes it as: “Such a special moment for Mother & Son.”

You can really feel the emotions as Tu stands up from his session with tā moko artist Lance Ngata.

He holds his whānau in a tight embrace, before sharing a hongi and appreciating his new art in the mirror.

As the clip continues, our hearts feel full and our eyes start to well as we see Tu’s mother receive her moko kauae.

She is celebrated by her son with a waiata and haka.

The tears continued to flow as Tania got her first glimpse at her moko before the mother and son duo beamed from ear to ear with love for each other.
