MMC chat what to expect with the cast of 'Hamilton' the musical coming to NZ for 2023

The creative blend of hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and Broadway is coming to Aotearoa!

The award-winning musical show ‘Hamilton’, is making its way to Aotearoa as part of a successful international tour.

Jeffery Seller and Michael Cassel Groups’ production of the show just finished a sensational run over the ditch in Australia and has just announced its first-ever international tour is coming to Aotearoa - Finally!

The limited-run production of Ron Chernow's famous biography stars Jason Arrow as Alexander Hamilton and Matu   as George Washington. Performances will begin at Auckland's Spark Arena in May 2023.

Hamilton’s Australasian producer Michael Cassel said: “After the huge success Hamilton enjoyed in Australia it is only natural that we should now turn our attention to our friends in New Zealand and share this incredible production which is musical theatre at its most innovative, original and transformative best.”

Tegan and Brook from the Mai Morning Crew caught up with lead actors Jason and Matu to talk about how the guys are able to remember everything in their 3-hour show.

"There's a lot of words, and a lot of those words are Jason's words," Matu answered with a laugh.

Jason then goes on to say: "most of my part is actually rap, there's not much singing for Hamilton in the show."

The stars then share that of course, practice makes perfect and after 535 shows, they feel like they have all their lines under control.

When Hamilton made its Broadway premiere in 2015, it captured the attention of audiences right away. Hamilton established itself as a groundbreaking moment in theatre with its creative blend of hip-hop, jazz, R&B, and Broadway.

The musical is based on the life of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and has significantly influenced culture, politics, and education over the last 7 years.

It has won many awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, a Tony Award, an Oliver Award and a Grammy.

Presale tickets will be on sale Wednesday, November 30 at 11am with General tickets available later on Monday, December 5 at 12pm.
