Silver linings and a community coming together to restore faith… after Dave ‘Butterbean’ Letele’s food share was robbed and damaged to the tune of $10,000 people rallied - you rallied - in support to restock and fortify the south Auckland food bank.

Hundreds of Today FM listeners got in touch with the brand yesterday to support to Butterbean - Tova interviewed Letele and as soon as she came off air he had already received $12,000 in donations and it kept going all day. Ka pai to everyone who's been supporting Dave and his team - so good to see!

Letele told Tova by Tuesday morning they had received nearly $100,000 in donations.

"It's just amazing," he said.

"All up including donations directly it's close to $100,000."

He described the communities support as 'unbelievable' saying they had a company come in and put metal bars on windows, meat companies dropping off pallets of meat and countless members of the public coming in to donate what they could too.

Buttabean couldn't thank everyone enough and is so grateful for every single individual who has donated in any way, shape or form.

"It's set us up for Christmas, we are running massive kids, to look after families at Christmas so it's just a huge relief."

What Dave and his team do is hugely important - especially in times like this with the cost of living crisis happening - so it's awesome to see that thanks to the community they can bounce back from a robbery.
