Cast of 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' say Chadwick Boseman was 'with them' while filming

"He showed us the way."

The sequel to 'Black Panther' is just months away from hitting our screens, and while audiences will definitely miss the film's original star, the late Chadwick Boseman, the actors want fans to know his presence was felt throughout filming.

Mai FM was given the opportunity to travel all the way to California to attend Disney's D23 Expo, where a bunch of Marvel stars made surprise appearances to show off their upcoming projects.

Fans absolutely brought the house down when the cast of 'Wakanda Forever' showed up to play an exclusive teaser from the film and pay tribute to Chadwick, who passed away in 2020 after battling cancer.

"Our heart, Chadwick, was with us every step of the way," Angela Bassett, who plays Queen Ramonda, told us.

"He showed us the way. We had to meet his level of excellence, and we did."

Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri, referred to Chadwick as "her brother" and said she hoped he was "smiling down".

Chadwick was also honoured as a Disney Legend at the D23 Expo, with his brother accepting the award with an emotional speech.

"As I think about my brother and this honour that is being bestowed upon him, I wish that he was here to receive it," Derrick Boseman said.

"Him not being here has been a point of immense pain for my whole family.

"But as I think about him, I think about how he honoured our parents. How he honoured his family.

"How he honoured even his friends, and he made sure that his friends had good careers. How he honoured all the contracts that he signed.

"He honoured them with his blood, his sweat, his tears, as he played these roles and he was taking chemo at the same time."

'Wakanda Forever' hits cinemas on November 10th.
