Māori reporter Oriini Kaipara has made history, becoming the first-ever person to read the 6pm news bulletin with a moko kauae.
The 37-year-old stepped in for usual hosts Sam Hayes and Mike McRoberts on Christmas Day, and she noted its been her lifelong dream to read primetime news while repping her moko kauae.
Kaipara got the moko kauae back in 2017, and noted how exciting the whole experience was. She said,
"I’m not speechless, but it’s a buzz. I am proud of how far I’ve come in being able to anchor 6.00pm right now.
"It’s definitely a step forward, and a step-up. If there was a goal for me, it would be anchoring prime time news, and that’s happened."
Congrats Oriini, a huge step in the right direction. Tu meke!
