Aotearoa has a rich history of talented artists who broke boundaries for Kiwi hip-hop, a history that has been somewhat undocumented for a modern audience, until now.
"NZ Hip Hop Stand Up is a new seven-episode video series about New Zealand hip hop. Featuring Scribe, Ladi6, Church & AP and more, each episode features an different track from Aotearoa hip hop's 30-year history"
Produced by RNZ, NZ Hip Hop Stand Up is a love letter to the culture, with behind the scenes stories and insights into some of the most important moments in Kiwi music history.
"Starting in 1988 with ‘E Tū’ by Upper Hutt Posse and ending in 2019 with ‘Ready or Not’ by teen sensations Church & AP, we talk to all the major players involved in some of the most influential and loved tracks this country has ever produced."
Legendary Kiwi director Chris Graham takes the creative reigns of the series, a natural choice after the incredible body of work he's produced with the likes of Scribe, King Kapisi, Dei Hamo, Smashproof and Home Brew.
NZ Hip Hop Stand Up launches on July 23, and Mai will be helping present the series so make sure you stayed tuned for the episodes as they drop!
