The Fast and Furious franchise has grown into one of the most popular and equally lucrative film franchises of all time since it's humble beginnings as a street racing actions flick. Gone are the days of the focus being on high octane racing sequences, instead we have tanks on motorways, airplane chases on endless runways, and even a submarine chase on a frozen lake.
With the upcoming "Hobbs and Shaw" spinoff well in the works, franchise favourite Vin Diesel has just announced a new spinoff to begin filming, and this time the girls are in charge.
Captain Marvel's Nicole Perlman and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, and Sierra Burgess Is A Loser's Lindsey Beer will serve as screenwriters for the film. Michelle Rodriguez will likely return to embody Letty's character. The cast and release date have yet to be announced.
Rodriguez previously expressed her desire to bring female talent to the forefront of cinema. "First and foremost, bringing some more women on the good team, not just bringing an amazing actress to play the bad guy, and having more female camaraderie, having women do things independently outside of what the boys are doing — that is truly the voice of female independence," Rodriguez told Entertainment Weekly.
While no casting or further production details have been released, the movie is sure to follow in it's predecessors footsteps with plenty of over the top action and turbo charged laughs.
