Former Cop Glen Green's passion for basketball is helping keep gang activity down in South Auckland.
Glen was so concerned about the increasing use of synthetic drugs and street fighting on Smiths Ave in Papakura that he took action.
The former Cop is the CEO of the 'Better Way Foundation' and managed to raise $50,000 through sponsorship, and built a basketball court, which is having surprising success.
I wanted to fight with Violet and drop a world-class basketball court right here on Smiths Ave... I'm quite surprised how people have responded. They've taken ownership, and I say to them, 'This is your court. This is your investment. This is your future.
There's been a miraculous change in attitude from everyone in the area. Saints player and former New Zealand basketballer Benny Anthony also turns up from Wellington most weeks for a session too.
Glen, tau kē!!!
