The Hollywood Reporter has stated that Disney is hoping to employ the talents of Aotearoa's very own Taika Waititi to direct a new Star Wars film.
It wouldn't be the first time the Boy director has worked with the space based franchise, earning critical acclaim for his work on the season finale of Disney+ series The Mandalorian.
Show creator Jon Favreau was clearly impressed by Taika's efforts, with THR suspecting that Disney used The Mandalorian as a "training and testing ground for directors" who they are eyeing up for future Star Wars projects.
Waititi already has his plate full, with his next movie Next Goal Wins already in post-production, and another Thor entry on the horizon.
"Waititi also remains involved with Akira, Warner Bros.' adaptation of the classic anime, and set is to tackle that after Thor. Any potential Star Wars undertaking could impact those plans."
