New Zealanders don't venture too far away from their hometown when choosing a holiday destination, according to recent data released by Spark.
Results show that of the more-than-a-million Kiwis that left their local city during the summer, the preferred destination of their holiday was less than three hours' drive from home.
Coromandel was the hot-spot of New Zealanders' holidays with 150,000 visitors.
While Aucklanders chose to visit the Bay of Plenty, Coromandel, Waikato, Northland and Rotorua most regularly, Wellingtonians were willing to go a little further afield with more adventurous trips to Auckland, Christchurch and Waikato, as well as areas closer to home, like Kapiti-Horowhenua and Hawke's Bay.
Christchurch locals chose to spend their holidays in Canterbury, as well as Queenstown, Auckland and the West Coast.
