Stage Challenge and J Rock cancelled after 25 years of student performances.
The annual Stage Challenge and J Rock events have been cancelled after 25 years of student performances.
The organisers have canned the events due to 'economic conditions'. The charity relied on government and corporate sponsorships, grants, participation fees and ticket sales.
Stage Challenge has been an event that many kids have looked forward to since 1992 and were often a huge highlight for participants.
In a closing statement, Foundation chairman Lester Taylor said:
We are proud and honoured to have had more than 500,000 students benefit from the opportunities provided by their participation during this time.
For so many of the kids that were involved in these events, this was something they looked forward to every year. Whether they were directing a performance or helping out backstage, this was a way for these kids to express themselves and be creative.
From my experience of being involved as a kid and then helping out as an adult by co-hosting the show, it opened my eyes to the hard work from all the volunteers and organisers that went into these events.
It'll be tremendously sad to see these events go and I hope they can come back one day.
