Jay Z recreates 'Friends' in newest music video

No one told you Jay-Z's new music video was gonna be this way.

The rapper released the video for 'Moonlight' from his new album 4:44 on Friday (local time). Although the rap music video is a Tidal exclusive for now, you may have seen it somewhere else before.

Directed by Master of None co-creator Alan Yang, the video for 'Moonlight' is a recreation of Friends starring a cast of black actors. Insecure's Issa Rae steps in to play Rachel, writing on Instagram that there are "two things I NEVER thought I'd be able to say".

"1) I'm playing Rachel in "Friends."

2) I'm in a Jay-Z video with some of the funniest/dopest black people ever.

In the video, yet to be released outside of Tidal, the group act out a few scenes from the Friends episode 'The One Where No One's Ready', saying the exact same lines as the original actors as a studio audience dutifully laughs along.

At this point that Jay-Z's 'Moonlight' finally starts playing, his voice breathing that they're "stuck in La La Land; even when we win, we gon' lose."

The song references the Oscars, when Warren Beatty accidentally announced that La La Land won Best Picture, when it was actually awarded to Moonlight.
