Kiwi heavyweight boxing champion Joseph Parker and his promoters Duco Events have won the rights to host his first WBO title defence in Auckland on April the 1st, against young Brit Hughie Fury.
Parker will again have home advantage after Duco's purse bid of just over $US3 million ($NZ4.1 million) edged the $US2.8m ($NZ3.8m) bid from Fury's promoter Frank Warren to secure a hometown defence for the South Aucklander.
The 25-year-old will take home a 60/40 purse split against 22-year-old Fury, the WBO's mandatory challenger.
The cousin of former WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, 'The Fist of Fury' holds an unbeaten record of 20 wins, with 10 of those coming by knock-out. His last bout was back in April 2016 when he won a technical decision against Cameroon's Fred Kassi.
A venue has yet to be confirmed.
