NZ Fire Service perform haka for fallen 9/11 firefighters

160 of our kiwi firemen performed a powerful haka at the Sky Tower in Auckland to honour the 343 firefighters that lost their lives in the tragic 9/11 terroist attacks.

The 15,000km distance didn't matter and a New York firefighter, who served in the 9/11 rescue efforts and was a guest of honour, said the ceremony was a "tremendous honor to be commemorating our guys here on the other side of the world."

During the two hour ceremony, event organizers read aloud the names of all 343 New York City firefighters who died on the tragic day 15 years ago, along with the names of 56 New Zealand firefighters who have died while serving their country.

After the reading, the kiwi firefighters donned their full fire fighting attire and began the ascent up the 1000 stair staircase of the Sky Tower.
