Kiwi UFC fighter Kai Kara-France gets a shot at interim UFC title

Kai is on a roll at the moment but will he be able to secure the belt?

Kiwi UFC flyweight fighter Kai Kara-France has been given a shot to become the interim champion of his weight class.

Kara-France, the number two ranked contender in the flyweight division, will go up against former champion Brandon Moreno on July 30th for UFC277.

Kai holds a professional MMA record of 24 - 9, including victories in his last three fights, two of which gained him performance of the night - his TKO victory against Cody Garbrandt at UFC 269 in December of last year, and his KO victory over Rogério Bontorin at UFC 259 in March of last year.

Current champion Deiveson Figueiredo has a hand injury which may keep him out the whole year, allowing for France to have a shot at the title.

Moreno and Kara-France have fought before, back in 2019. Moreno won the fight by unanimous decision.

Since that 2019 fight, Moreno has fought for the flyweight title three times against Figueiredo. The first fight was a draw, the second Moreno won, and the third went to Figueiredo.

Kara-France and Moreno will be the penultimate fight of the night in July, with the main event being the highly anticipated rematch between Julianna Peña and Amanda Nunes.

Peña shocked the UFC world last year when she defeated Nunes at UFC 269.

Nunes was absolutely tearing through the woman’s bantamweight division before her loss to Pena, having defended her championship 5 times. She also holds the record for the longest-ever title reign by a woman in UFC history.
