'Best rugby moment of the year': Unreal winning try by Wellington club goes viral

What a way to win a game!!

The internet is going wild over this crazy game-winning try that happened in Welly on the weekend.

The game between Petone and Hutt Old Boys Marist club was tied at 20 before some true rugby magic happened.

Hutt went for a dropkick right out front to win it, but Petone’s number 8 Tupou Sopoaga charged it down, and his teammate Sam Blackburn chased it down, gave it another kick, got the perfect bounce, picked up the ball, then dived on the try line to seal the win.

Absolute scenes.

The home crowd went absolutely bonkers when Blackburn scored the try -  as they should have.

Both teams were undefeated before the game, but the win now gives Petone their seventh straight win and they sit alone at the top of the table.

Fans that were at the game shared their thoughts on Reddit and TikTok, mostly about how awesome the atmosphere at Petone Rec ground was.

There was also some hardware on the line for this game - the McBain shield - which the two clubs have battled over for more than 85 years.

You gotta feel for Hutt here, so close yet so far.
