NZ Minister of Police caught driving with an expired rego

Police Minister Stuart Nash is keeping an eye on his mailbox, expecting a possible $200 fine for driving around with an expired registration.

The Napier MP was spotted by a resident driving around his 2016 Volkswagon Amarok ute despite the registration expiring on September 8, Hawke's Bay Today reports.

They uploaded a photo of the registration to Facebook - and there was no way Nash could deny it was his vehicle, the number plate being 'NASHMP'.

He said on Wednesday - coincidentally the same day it hit local headlines - he'd been made aware of the lapsed rego by a family member, and renewed it online.

"The registration of my MP for Napier vehicle is now current, but the license label for the windscreen has not yet been updated," he told Hawke's Bay Today.

"I'll keep an eye on the post," he said, possibly in line for a $200 fine.

In August, Nash was in the news over a different transport-related screw-up - he was late for a flight and took his frustration out on Air New Zealand staff.
