Rotorua based kapa haka group Te Puia have teamed up with the boys from Six60 to deliver an awesome performance of the band's hit song ‘Kia Mau Ki Tō Ūkaipō/Don't Forget Your Roots' for a Japanese audience.
The two groups performed in Beppu today to an enthusiastic audience of local and international fans.
Fans of kapa haka will be familiar with Te Puia, who are currently serving as ambassadors of Aotearoa at the RWC in an effort educate locals on our beautiful culture.
Group member Kiri Atkinson-Crean says the audience reaction has been great in Tokyo, and the pairing with SIX60 in Beppu brought a whole different layer and energy to the performance.
"It showcased the beauty of te reo Māori, the power and grace of kapa haka and the energy and creativity of Kiwi musicians."
