Blues star Sonny Bill Williams is taking the week off Super Rugby to help the Muslim community in Christchurch as they try to cope with Friday's atrocities.
A proud Muslim, Williams issued a tearful and emotional response to the shooting via social media.
Now the All Blacks midfielder has combined with the Muslims Around the World Project to raise funds for victims' families.
The Blues have obliged by excusing Williams from the side's upcoming clash with the Highlanders while he heads south to help his fellow
"Thank you everyone for your kind hearts," Williams tweeted on Sunday.
"We will be in Christchurch later in the week to show love and give donations to the Christchurch Masjids [places of prayer], for the people affected in this tragedy. My heart is heavy, please don't stop showing your support."
The absence will count as one of William's All Blacks rest weeks, as per NZ Rugby's World Cup year protocol to limit player fatigue.
