Eminem sets new Westpac stadium attendance record

A new attendance record has been set for Welllington's Westpac Stadium, with more than 46,000 fans turning out to see Eminem's Rapture concert.

The record was previously held by Robbie Williams, who performed at the venue in 2001. He attracted a crowd of 42,500. Eminem's total was 46,474.

It's the biggest crowd of any event at Westpac Stadium, commonly known as the Cake Tin.

"Eminem is one of the greatest showmen in the world, with a fiercely loyal fan base that continues to grow with each tour," said promoter Paul Dainty. "He is no stranger to selling out stadium shows, but he is continuing to break attendance records across both New Zealand and Australia, which is just phenomenal."

Eminem won't be playing any other Kiwi venues this time around. Last time he was here, 55,000 fans packed Auckland's Western Springs to see the 'Without Me' rapper.

The Eminem concert also involved hiring more than 1500 staff, including security, catering and cleaning.

More than half - 56 percent - of tickets went to fans outside Wellington.

The biggest sporting event at Westpac Stadium was the All Blacks vs British and Irish Lions test of 2005, said Mr Dainty.
