The infamous block in Brooklyn, NYC where Biggie Smalls was born and raised, is set to be renamed in honour of the legendary rapper's honour.
On Wednesday, the Brooklyn Community Board 2 approved the re-naming petition for a stretch of St. James Place, between Gates Avenue and Fulton Street, to be renamed Christopher Wallace Way, after the rapper’s legal name.
LeRoy McCarthy, who spearheaded the initiative, told Rolling Stone that he hopes the sign will be officially dedicated around Biggie’s birthday, May 21st.
Honoring Biggie symbolizes more than just one man,
McCarthy said. “It symbolizes a culture. It symbolizes a borough. It symbolizes a people, and hip-hop is worldwide.”
