Kupu: The new app that translates whatever you take a photo of into Te Reo Māori

Headlines 10/09/2018

Happy Te Wiki o te Reo Māori e te whanau! To celebrate, Spark and Te  Aka Māori Dictionary have launch their new mobile app, Kupu.

The Google-powered interactive app was created to help people learn Te Reo Māori with a very easy to use format.

All you need to do is take a photo with your smart phone, then Kupu will do the rest! Using  image recognition technology, the app then identifies what the object in the picture is, and then provides the Te Reo Māori translation for it too.

Starting today, Kupu is available for download free from the Google Play Store and the iOS App Store.

Spark, Te Aka and Google have launched the app to support the revitalisation of Te Reo Māori, showcasing how digital platforms that are accessible, interactive and fun for all New Zealanders can be truly useful for our national language.
