R. Kelly had made plans with Tupac Shakur to record a collaborative album before the rap icon was gunned down in 1996.
The I Believe I Can Fly hitmaker teamed up with Jay-Z in 2002 for their The Best of Both Worlds project, but Kelly reveals Shakur had actually been his number one choice to do a joint CD with years earlier.
In his new memoir, Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me, Kelly recalls discussing the plans with the hip-hop legend, telling Shakur, "I'm talkin' about a whole album. A whole concept. A big game-changing record."
The rapper immediately agreed to the joint album, replying, "You got it, Kells. Tell me what studio and when to be there."
The project never came to fruition and Kelly went on to hit the studio with Jay-Z. They recorded a follow-up CD, titled Unfinished Business, in 2004 - but an ill-fated promotional tour that year ended in chaos after a big fall-out between the two artists.
